Re: Singapore nepenthes

ahbeng04, I find that once you start 'seeing' a nep in the area, you will suddenly see more and more, like your eyes have been 'opened'. Even at Genting Highlands...

Re: Wild Nep By Roadside In Penang

Definitely albomarginata. Other species in Penang like mirabilis, gracilis, ampullaria occur in such small stands that the probability of a hybrid cross is very low. albo x ampullaria has the typical...

Re: N. lowii x campanulata

Wah, that is a lovely pitcher. The colour will come along, don't worry. Green....suddenly the newer pitchers have reddish brown colouration.

Re: CNY holiday pics - lowii x campanulata

Hi Casey, sorry for the late reply. Busy ever since CNY. I think temps are typical of Penang, uniform day and night, unlike in KL where the nights are cooler. Humidity - I never measured it but might...

Re: CNY holiday pics - lowii x campanulata

If you look at the first pic, you can see the hole looks black - charcoal pieces blocking the hole

Re: CNY holiday pics - lowii x campanulata

Oh, previously i experimented with coco-fiber, but that made the soil very moisture retaining, and killed a few sanguineas. After that, and including this one i use small, flat pieces of charcoal to...

Re: CNY holiday pics - lowii x campanulata

Thanks. Well, my mum just water the plant only (unless she has been feeding it something and not telling me about it). It has proven to be quite a hardy plant. Was a good buy.

CNY holiday pics - lowii x campanulata

Here's some pic of lowii x campanulata that I got from Fauzi I think about 2 years ago. Now under my mother's care as I left it at kampung a year ago. Haven't been fed for one and a half years time,...

Re: Guess Guess Guess 1

Yeah, not to mention the 'bulging' lower half of the pitcher, which excludes many 'slender' species as parents

Re: Guess Guess Guess 1

Let me guess....gracilis x rafflesiana...

The spur and vaulted lid is raff like, and the peristome colouration too.

Re: Is this burnt soil usable??

Usually black pieces are carbonised wood used in the firing process ie charcoal. If not, you can pick it off. Washing does two things, removes the fine dust and unfired stuff that clog and also...

Re: Bad (Root) Hair Day

Try metaldehyde snail baits. May stink a little...but worth it if doing eradication. Remember to repeat after some time cos that would catch the eggs that hatch into snails.

Re: Begonia

Looks like Begonia decora. The common ones in CH are decora, venusta, pavonina. They do hybridise, so you get introgressive hybrids as well.

Re: Bad (Root) Hair Day

From my experience, whatever attempts to mix different media of different density and particle sizes would invariably result in a certain amount of separation. I do mix them, but nature reorganises...

Re: Just some pictures over the weekend

Love to see the development of the beige raff then. Looks exquisite now, might even get better in the future. The colouration is a sure killer for nep fans (die..sendiri kena poison already, hehe).

Re: Bad (Root) Hair Day

Hybrid vigour plus campa is a lowland, so should be no problem in LL.

To be honest, I was quite reluctant to take lowii x campa as I am no big fan of hybrids. But seeing Fauzi's lowii x truncata...

Re: Just some pictures over the weekend

Lucky them, with the natural high humidity and tender loving care. I love Taiping...except the afternoon showers *biggrin2*. The colour of the beige raff is most interesting. Plus the winged...

Re: Bad (Root) Hair Day

Knock on wood, so far so good :-). A little gritty, as you can see, the plant becomes smaller in size. But as long as it is growing and producing pitchers albeit super miniature sized ones, I am...

Re: CAR ACCIDENT!!!!!!!!!!

Once it fully recovers, you gotta slowly get it used to more and more sunlight...How much roots left on the poor thing? And the stem and shoot centre suffers from any crushing?

Re: Bad (Root) Hair Day

The previous media was 1/3 burnt soil, 1/3 spaghnum moss, 1/3 cocopeat. The cocopeat and spaghnum had deteriorated and flushed out through copious watering in the past 3 yrs i think. But I did washed...
